Calcareous clay, poor in organic matter. Variety: Tempranillo and Garnacha, 25 years old, free-standing bush vines and on trellis.
Climate:
Continental Mediterranean with a marked Atlantic influence. After a dry spell and high summer temperatures, the prolonged harvest of 2016 benefited from favorable weather conditions, allowing for a high-quality harvest, classified by the Rioja Regulatory Council as “very good”.
Winemaking:
Harvest: took place during the first half of October 2016. Fermentation: 20 days in stainless steel tanks. Practices: daily punchdowns.
Aging:
24 months in barrel plus another 6 in bottle. Half of the barrels are French oak, the other half American oak. 30% of the barrels are new.
