Deep scarlet-red, intense and vivid with a high robe.
Nose:
Great intensity, clean and complex with notes of resin, ripe fruit, liqueurs and toastiness instilled by aging in the barrel.
Mouth:
Complex and harmonious. Rich and silky attack. Rounded in the mouth. Finish: Long-lasting finish that highlights the mixture of fruit and wood.
Operating temperature:
Serve at 16-14º C (53.5-57º F).
Food pairing:
Preferably paired with red meat, roasted or grilled. Also goes well with all kinds of cured cheeses, as well as charcuterie.
Description:
The Sierra de Yerga area, 400-500 meters above sea level.
Soil:
The soil is poor and predominantly brown-limestone and alluvial with good drainage and depth, so roots can easily spread out to look for food and moisture. Variety: Tempranillo and Garnacha, 20 years old, free-standing bush vines and on trellis.
Climate:
Continental Mediterranean, with a marked Atlantic influence. After a dry spell and high summer temperatures, the prolonged harvest of 2018 was favored by limited temperature variation which translated into high-quality harvest, classified by the Rioja Regulatory Council as “good”.
Winemaking:
Harvest: took place during the second half of September 2018. Fermentation: 16 days in stainless steel tanks. Practices: daily punchdowns.
Aging:
12 months in barrel plus another 6 in bottle. Half of the barrels are French oak, the other half American oak. 20% of the barrels are new.
Food pairing
Preferably paired with red meat, roasted or grilled. Also goes well with all kinds of cured cheeses, as well as charcuterie.
